Gerard O'Rourke from Monster Animation and Andrew Kavanagh from Kavaleer Productions met Canal+ on the 5th February in the Digital Exchange, Dublin.
    

Animation Ireland sponsors “An Evening with Academy Award winning animator John Canemaker”
Animation historian and Oscar-winning filmmaker John Canemaker is Professor of Animation at New York University and the author of a number of highly-acclaimed books about the history of animation in general, and Walt Disney in particular. His 2006 animated film, ‘The Moon and the Son: An Imagined Conversation’ won an Oscar for Best Short Film - Animated. John Canemaker is also the first NFS Visiting Fellow at the IADT.

Animation Ireland, with support from Enterprise Ireland, sponsored the industry event “An Evening with John Canemaker’ in the Lighthouse Cinema, Dublin, on Nov 16th. The animation industry event moderated by Damian Farrell, Animation CEO Forum Chairman, focused on Mr Canemaker’s book “The Art and Flair of Mary Blair”.

THE SECRET OF KELLS
The animated film tells the story of an orphan named Brendan who is set the task of completing the Book of Kells. The film is distributed by Buena Vista (Ireland) , Gebeka (France) and Kinepolis (Belgium) with international sales handled by Celluloid Dreams. The task sees him called to a new life of creativity and imagination where adventure, danger and action await him.

Cartoon Saloon has been busy. Not only has the company won Cartoon Forums ‘Producer of the Year’ and the Screen Directors Guild ‘Directors Finders Award’ but Cartoon Saloon was also been nominated for a BAFTA for their children’s series SKUNKFU! and work has begun in the studio on Adrien Merigeau’s Short film OLD FANGS.

  

Potential of Animation Industry in Ireland Highlighted at Masterclass with Magnus Scheving - Creator of Lazytown

Magnús Scheving creator, writer, producer, director of Lazytown and probably best recognised for playing the role of Sportacus in the series was in Dublin recently sharing his expertise. At the well attended Masterclass, Magnus spoke about his motivation for creating Lazytown and the journey he has taken to make it the international success it is today. Magnus inspired those attending with his high regard for the Irish Animation sector noting its great potential for growth. Cathal Gaffney, of Brown Bag Films & IBEC AudioVisual Federation chaired the Enterprise Ireland/IBEC hosted event.

  

Brown Bag Films have completed the CGI animation series OLIVIA for Chorion. The series is airing weekdays on Nickelodeon (US) in addition to over 20 leading broadcasters around the world. Nickelodeon's U.S. television network is seen in more than 96 million households and has been the number-one-rated cable network for 14 consecutive years. OLIVIA is a Nickelodeon(US) commission which has already been picked up by Five in the UK, ABC Australia, YLE Finland, SVT Sweden, NRK Norway and RUV Iceland and many other broadcasters.
OLIVIA is based on the award-winning books written and illustrated by Ian Falconer which have sold six million copies worldwide in 20 languages. Produced as a High Definition CGI animation series, Executive Producers for Chorion are Diana Manson and Kurt Mueller and Brown Bag Film’s Cathal Gaffney. Leading the writing team is Head Writer Pat Resnick- the acclaimed screen and television writer whose credits include 9 to 5, Quintet, Maxie, Straight Talk and the Golden Globe-nominated Hell on Heels - The Battle of Mary Kay. Chorion’s Supervising  Series Producer is Megan Laughton and producers are Chorion’s Karen Ialacci and Brown Bag Film’s Gillian Higgins. Animated in Brown Bag Films, with Art Direction by David McCamley and original music by Darren Hendely, the series is also directed by Brown Bag’s co-founder Darragh O’Connell.

Brown Bag Films are currently in production with the 52 part CGI series NODDY IN TOYLAND for Chorion and Five (UK).
