Irish animation company Boulder Media were delighted to see The Amazing World of Gumball pick up awards for Animation and Writing at last night’s British Academy Children’s Awards.

The Dublin company, set up in 2000 by Robert Cullen, was co-producer on the series, which received its international debut in May, and was the first full-length animated series to emerge from Cartoon Network Development Studio Europe.
Boulder Media were part of the team who won the Award for Animation for their work on Gumball, along with Ben Bocquelet, Mic Graves & Joanna Beresford of Cartoon Network Europe in association with Dandelion Studios & Studio Soi /Cartoon Network UK. Other nominations in this category included major names Nick Toon’s Grizzly Tales and CBBC’s Muddle Earth and Pet Squad.

Boulder’s work was also recognized by the Award for Writing, which went to the writing team for The Amazing World of Gumball - James Lamont & Jon Foster of Cartoon Network Europe, in association with Dandelion Studios, Boulder Media & Studio Soi/Cartoon Network UK.
Boulder’s Creative director, Emmy-nominated Robert Cullen, who founded the company in 2000, said, “We’re thrilled with this recognition of the fantastic work done by our team. We’ve thoroughly enjoyed the creative and artistic challenge working on this international production. As a Dublin-based company, we’re extremely proud of The Amazing World of Gumball and to be working on a global stage, with more multi-national projects in the pipeline.”

The Amazing World of Gumball combines 2D and 3D animation in a live-action setting, and follows the misadventures of 12-year old Gumball and his family in the weird and wonderful little town of Elmore. Featuring a stellar cast of characters, Gumball’s school friends include a tyrannosaurus rex, a cheerleading peanut, and a banana.

“The project took eighteen months to complete with a dedicated team of fifty three people working from our Dublin-based studio,” added Anne Tweedy, Producer at Boulder Media. “Thanks to our talented crew we helped produce a show that we’re all really proud of and we’re delighted audiences have been getting a kick out of it too!”

The British Academy Children’s Awards took place last night Sunday 27th November 2011, to celebrate excellence in all forms of children’s moving image entertainment, whether in film, television, video games or online.
