Academy Award Finalist Tomm Moore of Cartoon Saloon has been invited to participate on the Presidential Advisory Board, Academy of Art University, San Francisco. This elite group of industry professionals influence improvements in university policies and curricula towards building the best film school. The Academy of Art University is the largest private art school in the United States. On the weekend of June 5th a special screening of Cartoon Saloon’s The Secret of Kells will be held in San Francisco at the Academy of Art University.

Ross Stewart, the Art Director of the Oscar nominated Irish film 'The Secret of Kells', is to exhibit new paintings in Newtownards this month. A collection of his new work will be shown alongside paintings by fellow Irish artists Jonny McEwen, Carol Graham and Robert McLearnon in the Battletown Gallery, Newtownards. The exhibition opens on 23rd March and runs until 24 April. Ross Stewart has exhibited across Ireland and the UK over the last 11 years and his work is held in public and private collections internationally.

Award-winning Irish animation studio, Brown Bag Films has secured its second Academy Award® nomination in 8 years with its short animated film ‘Granny O’Grimm’s Sleeping Beauty’. Brown Bag Films was previously nominated in 2002 for the short film ‘Give Up Yer Aul Sins®’.
The six-minute film of ‘Granny O’Grimm’s Sleeping Beauty’ is directed by Nicky Phelan, produced by Darragh O’Connell for Brown Bag Films and written and performed by comedian Kathleen O’Rourke. It tells the story of a seemingly sweet old lady who terrifies her little granddaughter at bedtime with her dark version of the Sleeping Beauty fairytale.
Cartoon Saloon’s Feature Film “The Secret of Kells” receives Academy Award® nomination Produced by Kilkenny-based Cartoon Saloon, The Secret of Kells is one of five nominees in the highly-contentious Animated Feature Film category. “The Secret of Kells , directed by Tomm Moore, will go up against massive studio films including Coraline, Up, Fantastic Mr Fox and The Princess And The Frog.”

The film was an official selection at Berlin, made its US premiere at NY Int’l Children’s Film Festival, won the Audience Award at Annecy, and was the first animated feature to win the Audience Award at Edinburgh. The Secret of Kells has also been nominated for an Annie Award for best Feature by the International Animated Film Association. THE SECRET OF KELLS is a co-production and features the voices of Brendan Gleeson (Harry Potter, In Bruges), Evan McGuire and Christen Mooney.
